Robert Schumann

Robert Alexander Schumann was born on June 8, 1810 and died July 29, 1856. His piece Traumerei/Reverie makes me feel gleeful like riding a rainbow that goes on forever and ever and ever, or like I was a pretty white fish that was swimming deep in the ocean, it’s tail brilliant and sparkly, swaying from side to side like a tree in a summer breeze.

He lived in the romantic period.

(P.S. my fish died on Sunday and she was really a lot like the fish I described.)

Reverie means dream (I know from past experiences) and I thought it sounded like a lullaby.

Chopin

Frederic Francois Chopin was born in Poland on March 1st 1810 and died on October 17th 1849. His piece Fantasie-Impromptu made me feel like I was a tornado that was slowly coming toward a small town whirling and twirling with rage and then blown off course by a strong wind and traveling on my way but then the after shock of me comes and hits the town but it is not as bad as the tornado and the village gets repaired. Chopin lived in the Classical and Romantic periods.

One Interesting Fact: Chopin was considered one of the great masters of romantic music.

Franz Peter Schubert

Schubert was born on January 31, 1797 and died November 19, 1828 in Austria. His piece Moment Musical No. 3 made me feel like I was a marching ant marching to get its work done. It also goes from forte to piano a lot, and repeats the a lot like it is spinning. I enjoyed listening to Moment Musical No. 3.

He lived in the Classical and Romantic periods.

Brahms: Waltz in A Flat

Johannes Brahms was born on May 7 1883 and died April 3 1897 and he was born in Hamburg.

His piece, Waltz in A Flat makes me feel happy like I am sitting on a park bench close to dozing off in the fall. He lived in the Romantic period. This piece sounds like a lullaby to me because it makes me sleepy. It does not sound like a waltz to me because when I have heard waltz’s before they are legato and the beat stands out and this piece was just very legato. I enjoyed listening to Brahms: Waltz in A Flat.

(P.S. I google-ed a waltz and it said that a waltz was a sliding gliding dance)

(P.P.S. I know that a waltz is in 3-4 time, which means 3 beats per measure.)

(P.P.P.S I noticed in the dynamics that it goes from soft to loud and then to soft again a lot)

BEETHOVEN

Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. There is no authentic record of when he was born, but he was baptized December 17 1770 and most believe he was born December 16, and he died March 26, 1827. His piece, Fur Elise is very repetitive and kind of sad. That is what it makes me feel. I suspect that Fur Elise is played in a minor key. Beethoven would have been in the classical period. Fur Elise is a classical piece. Fur Eise means ‘for Elise’.

(P.S in a     minor, not ‘A minor’.)

The romantic period of music began in the early 1800’s and ended in sometime near the 1900’s.

MOZART

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, (what is now Austria) near Germany in Europe. He was born January 27 1756, and he died December 5 1791. His piece Rondo alla turca is also very repetitive, but unlike Fur Elise it sounds happy. Wolfgang was baptized on January 28 1756. Mozart was in the classical period. Rondo alla turca was in the classical period. Rondo alla turca means ‘turkish march’ translated to English.

RACHMANINOFF

Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff was born on April 1, 1873 in Semyonovo, Russia and died on March 28 1943.

The first part makes me feel angry, and it kind of sounds like a march, because it is very staccato, and the second part makes me feel sad and it is very legato. I think if there were words to this song, they would be expressing anger and sadness.

Prelude in G minor is the name of the song. Prelude means introduction, or something that introduces something else, therefor the must be another piece that comes after Prelude in G minor.

I enjoyed listening to this piece.

Rachmaninoff’s piece Prelude in E-Flat is very repetitive and is a mixture of happiness and sadness.

Story: The very start of summer vacation when the kids are just getting out of school and getting of the bus at your house to find your mom looking unhappily at you and it turns out you got a bad report card, but then since you just got out of school, she buys you an ice cream and everything turns out to be fine.

LISZT

Franz Liszt was born on October 22, 1811 and died July 31, 1886. He was born in the village of Raiding (Hungarian: Doborján), in the kingdom of Hungary. Hungary is in Europe.

Liszt’s piece made me feel happy, and energetic.
